Olive Oil Certifications for Private Label: PDO, IFS, BRC, Organic

Private label olive oil bottles

For a private label olive oil brand, certifications are what turn “good oil” into a product retailers, importers and buyers can trust. The ones that matter most are PDO (protected origin), IFS and BRCGS (food safety), EU Organic, and, for specific markets, Halal and ISO. You rarely need all of them — you need the ones your market and channel require.

The certifications that matter for private label EVOO

CertificationWhat it proves
PDO / DOPProtected Designation of Origin — oil from a specific, verified region
IFS FoodFood safety and quality management (retailer-recognised)
BRCGSGlobal food safety standard, required by many retail chains
EU OrganicNo synthetic inputs, certified and audited (the green leaf)
HalalCompliance for Halal markets
ISO 9001 / 14001Quality and environmental management of the operator

Which certifications do you actually need?

  • Selling to retail chains? IFS or BRCGS are usually non-negotiable.
  • Premium or origin story? A PDO adds provenance and shelf value.
  • Health or eco positioning? EU Organic.
  • Exporting to specific regions? Halal or market-specific paperwork.

How it works with a Spanish network

In practice, the certifications sit with the producers and bottlers in the chain, not necessarily with your brand. Our network of 20+ producers and cooperatives in Andalusia holds IFS, BRCGS, EU Organic, Halal, ISO and PDO options, so we match your project to a partner that already carries what your market needs. Frequently asked questions

Do I need my own certification as a brand owner?

Usually not for the product itself — the producer and bottler hold the food-safety and organic certifications. You may need your own paperwork for import or for specific retail contracts; we advise per case.

What is the difference between IFS and BRCGS?

Both are recognised food-safety standards. Which one you need depends on the retailer or market; many producers hold both.

Can a private label oil be PDO?

Yes, if it is produced within a recognised PDO region and meets its rules. It adds provenance but narrows the sourcing area.

Can you provide analyses on request?

Yes. Technical and organoleptic analyses can be provided so buyers can verify quality and compliance.
